My Deep Sea Adventure

Jacques Cousteau once said, "The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever."  I'm fascinated by the mystery, uniqueness, and beauty of the underwater world, and I've always thought how amazing it would be to dive deep into the depths of the ocean and explore a whole new world.  I was lucky to actually experience the thrill of scuba diving last summer, and it was one of the most exciting experiences and one of the greatest memories I'll ever have.  My family and I were on vacation in Cancun, Mexico, and we decided to try something different while we were there and go scuba diving.  We were given a scuba lesson to learn the fundamentals of scuba diving and then we were on our way.  As we arrived to the diving spot miles from land in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico, a wave of nerves crashed over me and butterflies filled my stomach as I realized we're going to be traveling down thirty feet below the surface.  We strapped on all our gear and jumped in.  As we descended further and further, we entered a completely different world.  The weirdest thing by far was breathing underwater.  As humans we’ve always had a natural instinct since we’ve learned to swim to hold our breath underwater.  To be able to breathe underwater and stay down there for minutes on end is a very surreal and unexplainable feeling.  It takes a minute to get the hang of, and you truly have to think about breathing because I actually caught myself holding my breath a few times.  We had to keep our focus on our surroundings and not think too much about the fact that a small tube attached to a tank of oxygen was the only thing keeping us from drowning thirty feet underwater.  Anyways, you have a feeling weightlessness and freedom as you glide through the water, and everything seems as if it’s in slow motion.  We saw so many strange-looking plants and fish of all colors, shapes, and sizes that we’d never seen before.  Fish could be found in every direction swimming right up to you so you could really get a good look at how unique each of them are.  There were also some very unique plants like this one that was a group of small cylinder-like plants that would quickly sink into the sea floor after the slightest touch.  After being submerged for nearly an hour we had to ascend back to the surface.  As we swam up, we left one world and re-entered another, and it was nice to back but I was definitely going to miss the deep sea world.  This scuba diving experience of mine is one I will definitely remember for the rest of my life, and the only thing I have left to say is when can I go back?!

The Beauty of Creativity

Have you ever thought to yourself, “What would the world be like without creativity?”  I’ve thought about this, and I believe the world would be a very dull and boring place if this were true.  Creativity plays a huge role in the world and always has whether it be through music, art, acting, writing, or dance.   All these elements give our lives entertainment, enjoyment, inspiration, beauty, and each of us our own originality.  It allows us to be who we truly are being able to express ourselves and show our talents and imagination.  It has helped shape our history and make the world the way it is today.  To me, it means everything because I love to use my artistic abilities through playing guitar, acting, drawing, or writing.  The reason I’m writing about this is simply because I feel that we should really appreciate our ability of creativity and use it throughout our lives.
